000274 - Prophylaxis with androgens can cause liver cancer in patients with Hereditary Angioedema

Poster abstract

Background

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a rare genetic disease that manifests with episodes of cutaneous or submucosal edema, most commonly affecting the skin, the abdomen, and the upper respiratory tract.

One of the most used therapy for HAE is prophylaxis with androgens. Side effects of treatment with androgens have not been fully evaluated yet.

The aim of this review is to increase awareness in physicians treating HAE of the oncologic risk related to this treatment.

Method

The bibliographic search for our review was conducted using Pubmed.
