D1.136 - Allergen awareness of patients in allergology consultations at the pneumophthisiology department of the Ignace Deen University Hospital

The aim of the study was to determine the allergen sensitization profile of patients in allergy consultations in Conakry.

This was a prospective cross-sectional study with a duration of 7 months from December 01, 2023 to June 30, 2024. Patients with asthma and/or rhinitis outside of flare-ups who stopped antihistamine (7 days) and corticosteroid (5-7 days) treatment before the allergens were applied were included in our study.

The most represented age group was between 11-20 years old, i.e. 45% with an average age of 26 years (ranges of 02 and 68 years old). The prevalence of sensitization was 96.25% and sensitization was dominated by mites (Dp = 53.09%; Df= 49.38% and Bt= 53.16%) followed by mould (Alternariat alternata=25%). Regarding the diagnosis, allergic rhinitis (36.80%) comes in first place followed by allergic asthma (29.63%). We also noted a combination of asthma and allergic rhinitis in 18.51% of cases and asthma + allergic conjunctivitis in 7.41% of cases. The majority of our patients were sensitized to at least one allergen (64.19%) compared to 35.81% to at least two allergens (22.23% and 13.58%).

The majority of our patients were sensitized to at least one allergen and the prevalence of sensitization was higher among youth and was dominated by dust mites and mold.
