D1.73 - Date Palm or Grass pollen rhinoconjuctivitis in a patient with watermelon allergy?
Case report
Background: A four year old girl came to the hospital with dyspnea, cough, wheezing and facial redness. The parents referred that it was the second time it happened after consuming watermelon. She had a history of rhinoconjunctivitis.
Methods: Case report
Result: skin prick tests were positive response to Timothy grass and Silver birch.
IgE specific to allergen components using ALEX2 (MADX) were positive for: Phl p 1: 2.57,
Phl p 5: 13.77, Phl p 12: 7.14, Lol p 1: 0.86, Bet v 2: 3.65, Pho d 2: 19.97, Mer a 1: 1.63, Cuc m 2: 12.96, Sol t: 0.31, Bos d milk: 0.92, Bos d 4: 1.27, Bos d 8: 0.75, Heb b 8: 0.3.
Open challenge with watermelon was positive
Conclusion: The patient has a profilin mediated watermelon allergy, but it was uncertain that respiratory allergy are due to Date Palm, or to Grass polen.
