D2.460 - Does Aspirin change outcomes of dupilumab therapy?
Background
Aspirin desensitiziation is one treatment option in NERD patients known for several decades now. Upcoming antibody therapies marked a significant change in long-term treatment of nasal polyposis (NP), reflecting a non-causal, symptomatic medication. No data are available on combined treatments so far.
Method
31 patients not responding adequately to aspirin desensitization were set on dupilumab therapy. group 1 combined aspirin and dupilumab, group 2 got dupilumab alone. Quality of life parameters, rhinoscopy and NO levels were surveyed.
Results
SNOT-scores, polyp and nasal inflammmation scores, FeNO and nasal NO levels improved significantly under dupilumab for more than 12 months in both groups. After dupilumab interruption half of the patients in both groups kept improvement over at least 3 months, the others developed not only inflammation with new polyps, but also subjective complaints.
Conclusion
Significant improvement was observed under dupilumab in most NP chronic sinusitis patients. Additional aspirin revealed no change in outcome under and after therapy. As half of the patients kept improved after three months without antibody therapy, more data should be obtained with the option of new treatment regimens.
