D2.472 - Immunology Innovation Program: Developing Antibodies Against Novel Targets Through Co-creation

Poster abstract

Background

argenx is a commercial-stage, global, immunology company on a mission to transform the lives of patients suffering from severe autoimmune diseases and chronic conditions with high unmet need through innovative antibody therapies. To deliver on this mission, argenx is developing a broad pre-clinical and clinical pipeline by integrating its antibody engineering capabilities with the deep disease and target biology expertise of external scientific and academic collaborators.

Method

The Immunology Innovation Program (IIP) is foundational to this mission. Within this innovation ecosystem of co-creation, argenx leverages its proprietary, cutting-edge SIMPLE AntibodyTM Platform in combination with its antibody engineering capabilities to generate highly differentiated antibodies addressing the questions from leading biology and disease experts.

Results

The portfolio of antibody therapies emerging from the IIP is broad and ranges from early research programs to marketed therapeutic options. By innovating at both the variable region and the constant region of antibodies, we have co-developed a deep pipeline of highly differentiated antibodies/antibody fragments with pioneering researchers in neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) biology, complement biology and neurophysiology. The human immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) antibody Fc fragment, efgartigimod, is an FcRn blocker approved in various global markets for the treatment of three IgG autoantibody-driven diseases: generalized myasthenia gravis, immune thrombocytopenia, and chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy. While progressing programs from discovery to clinical stages, argenx continues to screen targets involved in novel disease biology and this resulted in the initiation of five new research programs in 2025.

Conclusion

By innovating at the discovery level, argenx has built a broad pipeline of differentiated, potential immunology solutions to offer patients. To further expand our pipeline, the IIP team is actively engaging in conversations with leading academic institutes to identify opportunities, to transcend breakthrough research and publications, to achieve our ultimate and unifying mission of creating new, potential treatment options for patients.
